Yes, a New Hospital will be build in Puntarenas, Costa Rica

In a previous blog we mentioned the possibilty of the construction of a new hospital in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. We have now an answer for you, please continue to read.

Amid applause the president of Costa Rica said the words that most wanted to hear; funding and land for the new hospital in Puntarenas is a reality. “Hand in hand we bring good news for Puntarenas. Here we will built a new hospital in Puntarenas and this is thanks to the good will of several politicians and institutions, said Laura Chinchilla.
The site of 15 acres was donated by the National Production Council (CNP) as payment to a debt with the State. The CNP passed the land to the Ministry of Finance which then passed it to the Social Security Fund.
The president announced that funding will be processed as credit line with the Central Bank for Economic Integration and the total cost of construction will be $100 million US dollar.
“In exactly one month we found a solution to the problem of Puntarenas Hospital and we will do our best to ensure that procedures are streamlined and that this hospital is advanced by the end of my administration or 2014, said Chinchilla.

This is huge news for Puntarenas! I personally use the public medical health services of Costa Rica and any improvement is a big advance. Hopefully they will build a larger hospital with more medical services to get rid of the waiting lines. Puntarenas is a big province in Costa Rica so a new hospital is very welcome. It shows once again Costa Rica is growing and moving into the right direction.

A New Hospital in Puntarenas, Costa Rica?

Puntarenas on the Central Pacific of Costa Rica could have a new hospital if the Government gets the approval to use the land assigned for this. The National Production Council (CNP) is willing to transfer a property of more than 12 hectares or 30 acres, in the district of Barranca, Puntarenas.
Meanwhile, the Social Security Fund (CCSS), the Board of Directors agreed to support the initiative, but cannot guarantee to use the land given for the construction of a new hospital.

Meanwhile, last week, this legislative committee passed a motion to expedite the process and pass the whole initiative as soon as possible.
“This is a good time for the government to make decisions and decide to invest in the construction of a new hospital,” said Rodolfo Sotomayor, deputy of the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC) and proposer of the motion.

Is this a priority for Costa Rica? Although no deadlines have been set, William Barrantes, CEO of CNP, said the president of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, asked the petition to transfer the lot to the Fund.
“There were previous efforts, but it really took effect once the president was in the area and assessed the damage from the earthquake,” said Barrantes.

The sale of the land, they will pay between the Council and the Ministry of Finance, in the form of taxes, because the assets will not be transferred directly to the Fund.
“This is not a donation, but a legal instrument that allows to settle the debt in exchange for a non-liquid asset,” explained Alvaro Ramos, Deputy Minister of Revenue of that portfolio. However, according to Gabriela Murillo, Infrastructure Manager of the Fund, the transfer could settle a debt of CNP in favor of the Social Security Fund.
Regarding the valuation of assets, is a matter that belongs to the Directorate General of Taxation, and the amounts are not yet known, said Murillo.

After the earthquake of September 5, the damage to the health sector was estimated at $22 million according to president of Costa Rica. The president said the government should afford to pay this amount via the national budget and by other income.
The estimated total damage was approx. $45 million.
Monsignor Sanabria Hospital in Puntarenas Costa Rica, which was affected in its structure and fully evacuated, has yet to resume its activity to one hundred percent.
This medical center is located in the district of El Roble, in the canton of Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

It would be very good news to have brand new public hospital in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Costa Rica is a seismic country and therefore people are prepared, there were no people hurt in Costa Rica after the earthquake of 2 weeks ago. Here at Los Delfines Golf & Country Club in Playa Tambor, Costa Rica  not 1 home has any structural damage because of the good construction standards.

Trip to Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

Although we are in the rainy season here at the Central Pacific in Costa Rica, it is another sunny day. Beautiful clear skies and because it rains some days at night everything is very lush and green. It is a pleasure waking up every day being surrounded by the most spectacular flora and fauna in the world. This weekend we went to Puntarenas, which is translated to Sands Point, because there was a festival of the “Virgen del Mar” the holy virgin of the sea. She protects the fishermen and is very important for the Costa Ricans, and because Puntarenas is the biggest fishermen’s town in Costa Rica this festival is becoming bigger each year.

There are concerts, food stands, ice cream stands and lots of games for children. It is festival for the whole family. The festival lasts 2 weeks, which is perfect because the schools are off during these weeks. Another tradition is dancing with the clowns, it is parade of clowns walking through the neighborhood dancing but be careful if a child misbehaves he gets hit with a belt by the clowns. This is very exciting for the kids as they run around the clowns trying to avoid getting hit, all kids really enjoy this in Puntarenas. The last Sunday they take the statue of the holy virgin in a boat which is all decorated and together with 30 to 40 other boats they do a parade first through the estuary and later along the coast of Puntarenas. Beautiful view with lots of people admiring the scenery.

They finished the night with concerts and fireworks. Puntarenas used to be the number 1 spot to go to in Costa Rica but because of the lack of maintenance and upkeep it lost its charmes 30 years ago. Now they are cleaning up, trying to get it back how it used to be or better. Puntarenas just finished building a new beachfront community center with oversized pool. So when there is an event go to Puntarenas in Costa Rica.
